Is Your PC Ready for Windows 11?

If you haven't upgraded yet, now is the right time to plan it rather than scramble later.

Before You Upgrade — The Essential Checklist

Don't skip these steps. They take an hour now and save you potentially days of headaches later.

1. Back up everything first

Use Windows Backup, OneDrive, or an external drive. If anything goes wrong during the upgrade, you want a clean restore point. Test the backup — don't just assume it worked.

2. Check your software compatibility

Most modern business software — Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Adobe, antivirus suites — runs perfectly on Windows 11. But older or niche software (specialist industry tools, older accounting packages, legacy databases) may have issues. Check with each vendor before upgrading.

3. Update your drivers

Graphics card, printer, and audio drivers in particular. Outdated drivers are the most common cause of problems after a Windows upgrade. Visit your hardware manufacturer's website and grab the latest versions before you start.

4. Note your product keys

How to Upgrade

If your machine is compatible, the upgrade is free. Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for Updates. If Windows 11 is available for your device, you'll see an option to download and install it.

The process typically takes 30–60 minutes depending on your machine and internet speed. Your files and most settings carry over automatically.

If Windows Update isn't showing the option yet, you can also download the Windows 11 Installation Assistant directly from Microsoft's website and run it manually.
